People often ask me how long I’ve been doing this and invariably I answer: forever… I’ve always been an artist on the inside. Professionally, I spent 45 years in the restaurant/service industry which was a great living, and as it turned out, a means and a road to my true focal point… becoming a better artist. So, when I was 52, I enrolled in the Continuing Ed program at Rhode Island School of Design, graduated in 2010 with a Painting and Drawing Certificate and have never looked back.
I am a trained oil painter, but over the past few years, with encouragement from family, friends and fellow artists, my personal creativity has morphed into a new medium, paper montage, which I also like to call: painting with paper. Each of my works is composed of cut shards of paper that are glued into shape, color and texture to create a moment that I have seen or lived in nature. I am continually challenged by this medium! Each piece can take anywhere from 50 hours to many months and I have every work digitally scanned so that I can make available my limited edition prints as well as calendars, greeting cards and tiles to art lovers of all walks of life.
I love doing commissions! Please talk to me about your vision so that we can work together and create a personal piece of art for you.
Thank You, Galen
